How to Volunteer
Here’s a detailed breakdown of volunteer opportunities so you can better understand the time commitment, types of tasks, and decide what might suit you:
🏛️ Museum Committee
What you’ll do:
- Help run the museum’s daily operations
- Plan exhibits, events, and educational programs
- Assist with outreach, memberships, and communications
Best for:
- People who enjoy organizing, planning, or creative work
- Those interested in history and community engagement
- Volunteers who can commit regularly and want a broad role
Time commitment: Moderate to ongoing involvement
🎤 Museum Docent
What you’ll do:
- Welcome visitors and give guided tours
- Share information about exhibits and local history
- Work alongside an experienced docent (training provided)
Best for:
- Friendly, social individuals
- Those who enjoy storytelling or teaching casually
- Anyone wanting a low commitment role
Time commitment: Very flexible (minimum of one 3-hour shift per month; open Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays)
🔧 Fix-it Team
What you’ll do:
- Handle repairs, maintenance, and building improvements
- Work on projects at the museum and Old St. Mary’s Chapel
- Meet weekly for planning and coordination
Best for:
- People who enjoy hands-on work (tools, repairs, building)
- Retirees or early risers who like a regular routine
- Team-oriented problem solvers
Time commitment: Weekly morning meetings + project time
⛪ Old St. Mary’s Chapel Volunteers
What you’ll do:
- Host open houses and welcome visitors
- Help manage events like weddings, memorials, and meetings
- Assist with general supervision of the space
Best for:
- People who enjoy event hosting and hospitality
- Those who like meeting new people in a relaxed setting
- Volunteers who prefer evening or occasional roles
Time commitment: Flexible (especially Wednesdays 5–7 p.m. or events
🎒 Third Grade Field Trip Docent
What you’ll do:
- Interact with students during guided field trips
- Share short, engaging historical stories
- Help with scavenger hunt activities

- Energetic, interactive, and engaging personalities
