John Gregory – Postmaster, Judge

John Gregory

1852-1928

John H. Gregory, long time Judge of Rocklin Township, was born in 1852 in Connecticut. For years he was a staff member of the Placer Herald in Auburn. In 1900, he removed to Rocklin where he became associated with the local paper there., the Placer Representative. For a period of time, Mr. Gregory served as Rocklin’s Postmaster, after which he was elected judge of the Rocklin township court, a position he was to hold for many years.

Gregory married twice. His first wife was Louise O. Blanchard of Penryn by whom he had a son, John S. Gregory. His second wife was Amanda Donohue of Shingle Springs, El Dorado County, by whom he had several children, including ; Louise Gregory, Lena Olive Gregory (wife of Joe Dias of Loomis), Sophie Honors, Frank D. Gregory, Nathan Gregory, Alma Gregory, Mabel Gregory, Susie Gregory, Joe Gregory, and Eddie Gregory.

Judge John H. Gregory died in 1928, aged sixty-six. He was buried in Rocklin Cemetery.
